Preventing IKB
Rome Strategic Plan: Objective 2: To establish an active prevention of the illegal killing, taking and trade of birds
The second result-oriented objective of the Rome Strategic Plan is the need to act to prevent illegal killing, taking and trade (IKB) in wild birds. The Rome Strategic Plan sets three different targets in relation to Prevention. The first target states that the general public recognises IKB and its negative impacts. This relates to awareness raising activities, outreach to different groups in society, communication campaigns and media work.
The second target in the Rome Strategic Plan states that local and other relevant communities are engaged in wildlife conservation and benefit from benefit from it. The target outlines activities related to alternative livelihoods, increasing community resilience to limit recourse to IKB and engaging key community actors, including youth, to mobilize support in the fight against IKB.
The third target relates to using cutting edge technology where appropriate, to address key technical limitations hindering eradication of IKB.
